Is this visual image art or information? "On December 7, 1972, the crew of Apollo 17 changed the way we look at our home planet. This photograph illustrates the Earth as an isolated ecosystem, floating in space...The combination of science, engineering and artistry used in this image was generated by researchers in the Laboratory for Atmospheres at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD, using data from three different Earth-observing satellite instruments. The research team's goal was to assemble an image that recreates the visceral impact of viewing Earth from space with human eyes. The presence of the Moon in this image is an artistic addition." - Goddard Space Flight Center, History of the Blue Marble (2002). Available as art here: Available as information here: |
