Georgia O'Keeffe (November 15, 1887 – March 6, 1986) American artist.

"Where I was born and where and how
I have lived is unimportant.
It is what I have done with where I have been
that should be of interest."

-
Georgia O'Keefe, 1946

An Old Russian Prayer:
Hear our prayer, Lord, for all animals,
May they be well-fed and well-trained and happy;
Protect them from hunger and fear and suffering;
And, we pray, protect specially, dear Lord,
The little cat who is the companion of our home.

George O'Keeffe Sutcliffe arrived quietly in July 2005,
slipping in the back door
with a flick of his enormous striped tail.

His story is a mysterious one, full of unknown details:
how could such a glossy, dignified, self-aware individual
find himself perched in a wire cage at the McKinney SPCA,
amid such chaos, fear and desolation?

No one knows.
But he is home now,
gazing silently out the front window sill,
napping under the trumpet vine
and drowsing near his own
carefully shredded scratching post.
Home. Home.
